Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, FLACSO

FLACSO, the Latin American Postgraduate Institute of Social Sciences, is a regional postgraduate school created in 1957. The action in this project is carried out by the Department of UNESCO Regional Chair on Women, Science and Technology based in FLACSO and located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This Department was founded in 2001 and encompasses two regional programs: the learning Master Program on Gender and Public Policies, and the UNESCO Regional Chair on Women Science and Technology in Latin America. Its director is Prof. Gloria Bonder, an internationally recognized expert on gendered research and education, and adviser of several universities, governmental agencies and regional and international organizations. The local team is integrated by senior and junior gender trained researchers, educators, and communicators. Since most of the projects involve several Latin American countries, it also counts on the contributions of specialists of prestige institutions from those countries. Since 2014, they act as Latin American focal point for the global program GenderInSITE, an international initiative to promote the role of women in science, innovation, technology and engineering, and to demonstrate how applying a gender lens to the program can provide deeper insights, more effective programmes and more sustainable outcomes in the context of development.
