The Jagiellonian University in Krakow, established in 1364, is the oldest and the leading academic centre in Poland. It consists of 15 faculties, offering education at all levels: BA, MA and PhD programmes. There are well over a hundred degrees and specialities available in Polish in the humanities, social sciences, science and medicine as well as over a dozen in English. The Jagiellonian University is also one of the leading Polish research institutions, with a great record of both internationally and nationally funded projects and is well integrated into the European network of academic institutions through its numerous international education projects, funded by, among others, Erasmus Mundus, the Lifelong Learning Programme and the Visegrad Fund, aiming to further develop the innovative capacity of the university’s educational potential. Within the University, the Institute of Sociology has extensive research experience in the fields of gender and inequality studies, rural sociology, economic sociology, intercultural communication, religious and ethnic studies, civil society, the public sphere, media and urban studies.
