Preface
This document provides hands-on guidance for setting up and launching a Gender Equality Audit and Monitoring (GEAM) survey. The GEAM survey is an integrated environment for carrying out survey-based gender equality audits in organizations. It aims to enable interested researchers as well as gender equality practitioners with little experience in the social sciences and survey methodology to deploy questionnaires that generate high-quality data.
A first version of the GEAM targeting employees in research performing organisations has been developed during the ACT project Communities of PrACTice for Accelerating Gender Equality and Institutional Change in Research and Innovation across Europe (2018-2021).
During the INSPIRE project Building Europe’s Centre of Excellence on Inclusive Gender Equality in R&I, the GEAM has been further developed to better target academic versus administrative staff in different types of organisations beyond higher education. An additional questionnaire has been developed specifically to capture needs and experiences of higher education students.
The following document provides background information on equality data collection and hands-on guidance to setup and customize a GEAM survey. Overall, it is structured as a hands-on manual which will take interested equality practitioners and researchers from the initial setup of the questionnaire, to its customization, deployment and the downloading of results.
