Marcia Barbosa

Marcia Barbosa is a Brazilian physicists. She is the first generation of her family to obtain an university degree. She analyzes the unusual behavior of water use this knowledge to propose methods to obtain more clean water. For understanding the high mobility of water at dense system she was able to shade light in the confined water, including confinement in biological systems for what she was awarded the Loreal Unesco prize for women in science in 2013. She also studies the low participation of women in exact sciences and how this correlates with the low presence of women at high level positions in all fields of science. For this study she was awarded in 2009 the Nicholson Medal of the American Physical Society. Marcia is member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and of the The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
